Still Life Painting - Torso and Flowers by damie-m Still Life Painting - Torso and Flowers by damie-m
Some practice of a setup I made at home. This is what happens when my husband gets me flowers, I have to do something with it.

Here is the reference photo I took in case any of you were curious:

In case any of you were EXTRA curious, here is the beginning portion recorded via livestream if you want to watch some of the process:

very nice! the juicy warm color of the fruits adds flavor to the overall neutral/mute-color of the background.

Fantastic concept and use of the dark background to display your beautiful flowers. The lighting is exceptional. Your combination of various elements of nature really stand out so professionally. True realism with warmth and inspiration.

Gorgeous! A job well done! You are so talented, I wish I could even do something minimal like drawing fingers that actually look like fingers.

Do you mind if I ask how long this took? And what is your process like? Just curious :)

Not at all, I think I clocked it in around 10 hours...I'm much more comfortable in the digital media than if I were to do this on canvas (it'd take me probably three times that because of mixing paints and generally being all fumbly with it). The process was mostly blocking in the shapes in a sepia-toned sketch, then continuing to refine it by adding in colors and trying to match shapes from lights and darks, while finding key areas for landmarks in order to determine accuracy. There are just too any things going on in my head at all times while I'm working these out, it's mostly "does that match the shade, is the color bright enough, are these negative shapes lining up properly", etc. But I don't bother line-sketching. I just go in at full speed with large brushes to get all of it working together in harmony right off the bat.
I actually have the beginning portion of this recorded via livestream! you can watch it here if that helps:

Goddamn, you have amazing skills. Absolutely precision rendering. I don't usually dig the still life pieces, but the arrangement is nothing short of delicious for its palette alone.
