Truce? by damie-m Truce? by damie-m
I don't really expect many to care, but hey, I colored something. That's an achievement.
Nightwalker rogue and a tasty looking bird, whynot. Was a school thing at the beginning, was declined, and therefore I just took it up and colored it.
Photoshop CS.

Looking good. I think what I like the best is how much the little bird stands out-- not sure if it was a conscious compositional decision or not (I don't see how it couldn't be, it seems very well-thought out), but it the color and placement really balances everything out.

Very well done. I wish I could offer constructive critique, but I can't pick anything out off the top of my head that needs to be improved (although I'm sure it's there, I'm just not good at critiquing ;) ).
Hope you don't mind a fav tossed on the pile. :)

This is amazing, I love how small and innocent the bird looks, and the effect of the light breaking through the clouds. And the lightining in general. And the orange details. And everything. :P

For what it's worth, a person who has little experience in art thinks that this piece is amazing.

You draw great, don't get me wrong when i say this:
almost all your pieces seem immobile, and this latest one, the same. Per'aps you should do motion studies or use perspective in your art, something like you almost did in "when the angel tasted flesh" (don't really know if i wrote it right, but i'm sure you know which one i'm talking about). I've been watching you for some time, through another account (i wasn't logged on with this one when i clicked "watch") and though i like your work, i can't say that i'm really *convinced* by it.
I mean, it's like the old movies, from the early 1900s, when theatre actors were taken from the stage and put to act in front of cameras. Their gestures were amplified, just like in theatre, they kept their faces to the camera, so that they would be seen, they made bombastic poses, to emphasise the costume and their physic capability to do such. I guess your art reminds me of that - theatre. Everything is set in its place, everybody's looking their best and trying to do so.
Once again, i like your art, but maybe you could get over this stage and start making it more realistic/natural/flowing.

I guess I can see what you're trying to say, although I'm not sure what you mean by "get over this stage". I am in school right now. I plan to get better. I plan to work on this problem I have with poses - I just pay too much attention to composition, and I feel that perspective is a cheap way of getting attention. Sort of the extra "Well look at me!" dramatization that almost ALWAYS looks fake and placed on purpose. Isn't that what you were trying to say I should stop doing..? Realistic doesn't mean the camera is underneath a person's foot, right?
I main problem is not using reference. All of this junk comes from my head, what I know, and so it often comes out wrong and unstable. But that doesn't mean I don't need practice... :)

BOAHHH:..... i dream... i could paint so... O.O... hmm... but light comes from different sides... %)
YumiYoukkai Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2007
I like how it's mostly monochromatic but the blood and the helpless birdie are bright red, it's a simple focus but still interesting. I almost wish the bird were bigger though...other than that I love it :devilish:

Nice concpet, I love the contrast too.

Not bad but I must put my two cents in.

you sort of over did it in the larger figure, unless he's wearing all leather his cloak and out fit aren't highlighted properly, not only that but the larger figure overpowers most of the image so the onlooker's eye will focus soley on that figure. the picture also in itself is almost completely monotone in composition, so from a distance its visually uninteresting.

I'm sorry I couldn't resist :cries:
damie-m Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2007  Professional General Artist
I understand where you'd not enjoy parts of the image, but for some things I did mean to do. Like putting a majority of focus on the figure and having a monochromatic image. I guess it's one of those types of images where you have to look up close to appreciate? At any rate..
I'm not sure what you mean about the highlights--he is wearing an all-black leather/cloth kind of outfit, so.. :) If you could elaborate that'd be awesome.
Not trying to down your critique, I love critique (bread and butter!), but it seems interesting to me that some of the choices I made on purpose felt wrong to some people...maybe I ought to work more on that.
Koui Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2007  Professional General Artist
ok, about the outfit : cloth like say cotton or fleece or wool doesn't catch light like leather or other materials with some form of sheen to them, light on cloth for example looks 'fuzzy' because light penetrates the fabric, on leather its 'glossy'[sort of like a polished finish on linoleum type glossy, unless its worn that is] like how you did it. I was confused tis all usually cloaks are made of light materials [so that they don't 'catch' the wind and restrict the wearer] and I'd never heard of a leather cloak before  other than that its not bad .

ahhh NOW I see what you mean, ahaha. Yes, you are right about the reflection problem with the clothing, so I'll give you all the credit for pointing that one out! Thanks ;)
